SUGGESTED STEPS
The process of joining Freemasonry starts with an applicant identifying either Masons or a Lodge to approach in order to express an interest to learn about the Craft and possibly becoming a Mason.
Below you will find two documents. The first is an Application for Initiation. The second is an Application for Affiliation. They are self explanatory so feel free to use them as needed.
* Application for Initiation
* Application for Affiliation
(Please note in order to view and print either of these documents you first need to download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is a reader for the pdf (Portable Document File) file types. It is free and very commonly used so have no fear of installing it.)
An applicant then will meet with Master Masons to discuss various topics on Masonry including his reasons for joining the Craft. Master Masons will provide material for him to study and share their knowledge and experience on how to proceed in the ‘search of light’.
During this phase the applicant and assigned Brothers will develop a relationship based on mutual respect and interest. This will help an applicant clarify his reasons for wanting to join and to further understand what Freemasonry is all about. It also provides valuable insight to our brethrens about the applicant, defined as ‘identification of candidate worthiness’. During this phase it will become apparent who the two required sponsors will be. After completing these initial studies, the applicant then submits his application accompanied with two sponsor’s signatures.
His application is then sent to the Lodge for the ‘Committee of Inquire’ to look into. The applicant must understand that three Committee members will investigate his character, moral integrity, and beliefs. After this examination, a report will be compiled and sent to the Lodge, and if favorable, the voting process will be initiated. All Master Masons of the Lodge will vote on the acceptance of the candidate, and if favorable, the applicant will be accepted as a candidate for membership in Freemasonry.
A most serious responsibility rests on his sponsors that he is well fitted to become a member of our lodge. One of the outstanding appeals of Freemasonry lies in its exhortation that honesty, decency, integrity and virtue are the hallmarks of a dedicated Freemason. His sponsors will help him in his journey of gaining knowledge to become the Master Mason. |
